As a consultant to the building and remodeling industry, I spend most of my business time talking with contractors about their remodeling business. What a gift to have this practical guide written by an experienced remodeler for the benefit of prospective customers! I often tell contractors that unless they want to sell their work based exclusively on price, they will need to expend some effort in educating their prospective customers with regard to what the remodeling experience SHOULD be like. This renovating book is right up my alley, it shows that the real world of renovating is not like the HGTV channels when a bunch of tradesman come in and do the job in just days. The reality is that renovating takes time, jobs are scheduled in, and it takes a lot of organising and juggling to ensure the project is kept on track and done well. Read More…
This is not a glossy interior design book full of perfectly styled rooms but rather a practical guide to renovating. It can be used as a really useful handbook and reference guide for all things renovating and remodelling.

As a person involved on both sides of remodeling for 30 years, I’ve read many consumer publications that attempt to prepare people for the remodeling process, but this is the most comprehensive treatment I’ve seen. Anyone who is contemplating a remodeling project will find everything they need here. It provides inspiration with design ideas, confidence to proceed by providing real and understandable information, and everything you need to develop the right plan and budget. The biggest reason that projects don’t work out is that the client has no clear plan and the remodeler can’t read minds, which makes everything a struggle. From the remodeler’s perspective, any client that has read this book will be a more valuable asset in the process. As I read through it, I imagined how much fun people will have if they use the book to prepare. If they take the time to do what Kathi suggests, they will enjoy all aspects from dreams to design to construction to the benefits of a successful remodel. I strongly suggest that anyone considering remodeling use this book as a primary resource.
Renovate. Remodel.. Relax! Is an extremely well written publication and is presented in a meticulously organized format. This book is well suited for both the beginner as well as the seasoned professional. R, R & R communicates in very understandable language. This is not only a “How To” but just as equally important, a “How Not To.” This book will increase your upside potential while limiting your downside risk. If you are looking to save time, energy, and needless spending on your project, this is the perfect book for you.
Although remodeling will never be as it is shown on the tv shows, where the world is made perfect in 30 minutes, this book will help you achieve the price points that you are needing; the service that you require; and the quality that will give you a return on your investment well into the future. Price + Service + Quality = VALUE! This book can get you there. Since I acquired this book, it has not left my desk top and I refer to it often.
Think of this book as your Home-Renovation Resource Guide…… it will ignite your imagination, help you discover what you really want, and escort you through an effortless remodel. So don’t wait any longer. The home remodel you’ve been dreaming about can become reality…starting today.
Renovate, Remodel…Relax! completely prepares you for your remodeling project ahead. So while the typical homeowner is stressed, confused, and agitated during their remodel, you will be totally relaxed, in control… and even enjoy the experience.
We live in the age of HGTV, where in one hour a demolition and complete renovation can happen. Where they conveniently skip over most of the processes involved and BOOM! Flawless remodel. (not to mention giving architects and designers around the world headaches on the reg when the neighbor with cable suddenly feels inspired for some home DIY, without understanding what it takes to execute said project, which turns into an oh no! fix my disaster! project)
As an interior designer/soon to be architect, I am SO SO SO !!!!! (yes, multiple exclamation points!) thrilled to have discovered this book and I am beyond impressed with the authors ability to, not only walk through the whole renovation process in a non-wordy efficient way, but also provide useful forms, graphs, and knowledge about issues many other books in the field overlook.. (how to budget, hiring a contractor. and even how to prepare for the remodel and tips on dealing with the emotional stress that comes with living in a construction zone)
If you are a homeowner thinking about finally making your house your home, do it! but read this book first so you’re properly prepared.
“I had no clue who to call when I decided I needed to remodel the bathrooms, so I went to a seminar on remodeling and what to look for. It was held by Kathi Fleck and was very informative. I felt so comfortable with her that she was the first one I called when it was time. She is really helpful with design, giving suggestions when I didn’t really know what I wanted or what could be done. We worked together and got exactly what I wanted. The whole process was as professional as I could have hoped and when I think of the anxiety before this started I was more than pleased.
Thank you again for the beautiful job and looking forward to working with you again.”
“My wife and I spent considerable time looking at ways to upgrade a wood burning brick fireplace. There were a lot of ideas on line, but we weren’t sure what we wanted. On a recommendation from a co-worker, my wife contacted Kathi Fleck. Kathi was very helpful in material selection and steered us away from materials that would not be compatible with a wood burning fireplace as well as showing us what would work. Kathi’s keen eye and experience helped us avoid costly mistakes. We have no reservations in recommending her to our friends and family.”
“We first met Kathi and LoneStar Property Solutions in 2010 when she was referred to us. We were looking for someone to tackle a complete master bath remodel and someone with the subcontractor resources and designer touch to manage the process for us. Kathi impressed us with her ability to advise us on design ideas and execute our vision perfectly. The entire crew, including the subs, were first rate with outstanding construction detail. Our friends have been impressed with the end result and we are most satisfied with the outcome. In fact, we have been so impressed, we have used Kathi and LoneStar on additional projects. They are our company of choice.”
“I always look forward to working with Kathi, because I know she will give us the best of the best advice, service and product. We have always been more than happy with the finished product. Kathi will continue to be our first choice in any future project.”
“This was our first ever remodel project, and we weren’t at all sure what to expect. We’d had a couple of other contractors come out and been disappointed in their approach. Within about 15 minutes of Kathi first coming into our house, we were feeling much more comfortable. She saw so many possibilities that we’d missed. We began with the kitchen and both bathrooms but were so pleased with those projects that when we decided to redo the rest of the house, Lone Star Property Solutions was our first call.”
“As a cabinet designer, I have been consulting with LoneStar Property Solutions for home remodeling and kitchen, bath, laundry & media cabinetry. I can attest that Kathi does invest a lot of hands on time with her clients; listening, advising, resourcing, providing every option & explaining every detail of the project allowing her homeowners to remain in control of their budget and confident with every decision!’
“We recently completed a kitchen remodeling project with Kathi. We chose her because of the attentiveness we received from the first time we met with Kathi. She spent a great deal of time with us to understand what we wanted to accomplish with our project and stay within our budget. We were impressed that Kathi captured every detail for what we described from our first meeting in her initial proposal. We felt that she was very much in tune with what we wanted in terms of a final product. She was also very flexible with making changes as the project progressed. Kathi provided us with a high level of assistance as we made our selections for materials, colors and designs. She did not try to talk us into anything based on her personal preference yet she gave valuable insight for selections that we may have ultimately regretted. Kathi employs technicians and workers that are courteous, professional and trustworthy. They all completed high quality work and were sensitive to leaving my home in good condition prior to their departure each day. I would highly recommend her and will hire her in the future for other projects in my home.”
